CANADA’S WHALES
Our MSS surveillance system is playing a crucial role in the protection of the endangered right whale population in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, where Transport Canada’s National Aerial Surveillance Program is on a mission to protect the majestic right whales.
With just 450 right whales remaining, daily surveillance flights have become essential to track their movements, prevent ship collisions, and minimise the risk of entanglement in fishing gear.
The MSS’s high-tech camera captures detailed imagery, providing real-time data to help redirect marine traffic and keep the whales safe from harm at sea.
By combining our SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar), which has unique capabilities to monitor large water areas, with data from IR/UV scanners and custom calibrations, our systems can effectively detect, analyse, document, and pinpoint wildlife with precision.
