ensures continuous operability of their aircraft and mission systems.

The Finnish Border Guard has awarded a large avionics upgrade on their two Dornier 228 aircraft to Bromma Air Maintenance (BAM).

The avionics upgrade consists of a new Flight Management System, complete 3-tube EFIS incl. electronic standby instrumentation, new digital reference systems, new digital audio system, new tactical communication suite, ADS-B, TCAS, TAWS A, weather radar and EFB systems, just to name a few highlights of the complete upgrade of the two DO228 aircraft. The preparation for the upgrades has already started, and the modification of the first aircraft will begin in October this year.

In conjunction with the Avionics upgrade the two MSS 6000 airborne surveillance mission systems from ST Airborne Systems will also be upgraded. The MSS 6000 systems consist of two operator consoles, a Selex radar, an EO/IR, Side Looking Airborne Radar (SLAR), IR/UV scanner, AIS, SatCom etc.  The on board mission system computers will undergo a hardware and software upgrade which will bring them up to the latest standards. “Our close co-operation and relationship with or esteemed Finnish customer has again proved that our product and service offering is recognized and demanded by our customer” says ST Airborne Systems’ President Mr. Olov Fäst. In addition to the mission system computer upgrade, also the on board search radar will be upgraded, further increasing the airborne surveillance capability of the Finnish Border Guard.
